Designing Your Home on the Computer II

Greetings everyone, I'm glad you came back to see where we left off on our CAD exploration project. Here is an update on the current situation: Last month as I was working with SoftCAD 3D Lite, I realized I had jumped the gun, going 'gung-ho' on some preliminary plans for a garage using SoftCAD 3D Lite. It seems that this program is actually made more for 3D Modeling rather than 2D plans, which we are more interested in at this time.

The good news? Well, for those of you that actually took time to learn the software last month, you now have a free toy to model with to your heart’s content. And a rather powerful program, I must admit.

The bad news? Well, as previously mentioned, this is definitely NOT the right CAD program for what we are interested in. I've spent many hours trying to find a low-cost, yet good Computer Aided Drafting program that doesn't require a degree to learn how to use. Some of the programs I have tried are either useless (hence- VERY low-cost), or just too complicated. Many give up their "save" feature after a 30 day trial period.

So here is where we are: Still in search of a good program that ALL of us can benefit from and something that’s not too intimidating. I really liked the looks of TurboCAD 2D, but have had a hard time finding ANY online tutorials for beginners’ use. For those of you intending on doing advanced CAD, this is probably the one I'd use. But it's too intense for the preliminary plans that we want to address.

I am open to suggestions to the package you've used that is low-cost. "Low-cost" does make it tough to find an adequate program.

Ok everyone, my quest continues, searching the world wide web for a good program. I WILL keep you informed, many apologies.

God bless,

James
