Redmond Skateboard Park

One of the newest projects taken on by the office of Fred J. Becker, Architect is the new Redmond skate park that will be located at the corner of Antler and 15th near the Spud Bowl. The group heading up the project is the Redmond Area Skaters (RAS). This group is comprised of youths and adults who support skating in the Redmond area. For many years this group has been working to raise funds to develop a skateboard park and now the reality of their dream is coming true. RAS has received two grants; one awarded by the Robert W. Chandler II Fund of $12,000 and the other awarded by the F.J. Hodecker Family Fund of $3,000. The city of Redmond donated the land on which the park will be built. Including grants, funds raised, and donations, RAS has raised nearly $40,000. RAS is still seeking support from various organizations, businesses and individuals who are willing to donate labor, materials, funds, and/or ideas to help build their skateboard park.

While funds are being raised, the office of Fred J. Becker, Architect is excited to be a central part of the skateboard park design process. With the help of experienced skateboarders from the middle school, high school and community, the skateboard park will be designed to encompass a variety of types of skateboard ramps. The park plan has been refined after many hours of discussing pros and cons of various ideas and past experiences. With the design concept almost completed, RAS believes that the Redmond skateboard park will provide opportunities for every level of skater and will attract skaters from areas outside of Redmond.

Currently, RAS is planning a pop bottle drive for Saturday, January 8th. They are looking for a parking lot in which they can drop off their pop bottles throughout the day. If interested in donating pop bottles and cans or providing a lot space for a day, please call Pat Minney at 923-7714 or Jim Smith at 385-1731. Also, contact Pat or Jim for all other donations to the Redmond Skateboard Park.
