Update on Habitat for Humanity for April of 2000

Local Bend Area HFH news:

The project at Dorrie Court is the second community justice home. This home is a restorative justice house which youth from the restorative justice program will help build. The foundation for this home was poured this week.

Higher Ground, a co-housing development, has sold HFH a second lot on which a stress skin panel home will be built for a single mom and her three children. HFH will be breaking ground in April.

Four homes will be built on Harriman Street. Two of the homes will be conventional stick built, three bedroom houses. The third house will be a straw bale house designed by Lawrence Schechter. This home will be designed using sustainable architectural principles and construction will be started in a couple of weeks. The fourth home is called the "Grace House" sponsored and built by the Faith Community Build program of HFH. Three churches from Bend are currently participating: First Lutheran Church, First United Methodist and Trinity Episcopal. The foundation has been poured and the floor is being built.

Local Redmond HFH news:

The Grandview Townhouse, located on SW 23rd Street, sold on December 30th, 1999. This triplex was finished in 1996 and houses three families. The dedication of the triplex was on Palm Sunday, April 16th, at 2 PM. Z21 and the Bend Bulletin covered the event.

The Bureau of Reclamation and Home Depot will be planning to install an irrigation system on the Grandview Townhouse’s park area. OSU will be suggesting a drought tolerant grass to plant that will grow well in Central Oregon.

HFH has brought in fill and is beginning the excavation phase on the James Family lot located on SW 21st Street between Pumice and Quartz Avenue. HFH is currently looking for qualified contractors, namely those who specialize in concrete, heating (radiant), and roofing. They recently have received two donations: free floor covering, a laminate, donated by Pickering and free Monier Life Tile Roofing.

HFH is looking for people with fundraising experience to plan a signature event that will be put on annually. If you are interested, please call Judy Churchill at 541-548-1406.

HFH is in need of tools—saws, routers, generators, etc.—to be donated for use in future construction. Please call 541-548-1406. The HFH office is open from 10-12 am to receive donations. If you are unable to bring these tools down to the office, HFH will pick them up from your home or business.
