Update on Habitat for Humanity for August of
1999
Local Bend Area HFH news:
- KFXO FOX 39
has helped keep the public informed about
Bend Habitats signature fundraising event, playhouse raffle, on their web site http://www.kfxo.com through updates on special events,
volunteer appeals, and partnership recognition. (Fox's email: KFXO@empnet.com)
- Pozzi Windows
and KFXO FOX 39
each sponsored 50 commercial spots to promote the signature fundraising event. The
commercials produced by FOX 39 were on the air beginning July 21 and ran through August 6th.
- Baklund-Hellar, Inc
. continues to support Bend Habitat
by including Habitat volunteer and CYIP [County Youth Investment Program] testimonials in
their new product brochure.
- S-B Power Tool Company
[Skil-Bosch] has donated power
tool accessories and has committed to provide S-B company construction volunteers.
- Cascade Business News
has again provided press coverage
for Habitat. They featured five articles in their last issue covering the ReStore Grand
Opening, RV Care-a-Vanner visit, Builder partnership in the playhouse raffle, Bend
Habitats 10th year anniversary, and volunteer appeal for upcoming
projects.
- The Bend Chamber
monthly publication "Chamber
Connections" highlighted "Happenin for Habitat," a fundraiser party
sponsored by the families of Higher Ground [a local housing development] to raise support
for another parcel for building on and announced the Grand Opening of the ReStore.
- The Bulletin
has continued its support of Bend Habitat
by including two articles focussing on an appeal for volunteers and the playhouse
fundraiser.
- Donations generated from the Kids Tool Box Build at the Summer
Festival totaled over $200.
- Playhouse tickets sales at the fourth of July at Drake Park,
the Summer Festival, and Bend
The Rim has generated over $2600.
- Holiday Realty
has agreed to sponsor the placement of
two Habitat Playhouses at their developments in Bend for the 1999 Tour of Homes. Hotdogs
and Pepsi will be sold at the sites; all proceeds will be given to the Bend Habitat
General Building Fund.
- Strategic Mortgage
held a company work day on the Full
Moon site on Friday, July 16.
- Lifewise
has committed to a company workday this month
on the 31st.
- Bend Habitat partnered with COBRA to sell Playhouse Raffle Tickets at this years Cobra Childrens Festival. Half the proceeds raised
will benefit the signature fundraising event. Kids Tool Box Build at the event will
generate donations which will go to Habitat General Building Fund.
- KBND and KSJJ
provided
on-air interviews discussing the Playhouse Raffle.
- The Poplars Nursery
donated nursery stock to be used in
the landscaping of Bend Habitat projects.
- On Saturday, August 7th, Bend Habitat for Humanity celebrated its ten year
anniversary from 11 to 1 oclock at the Full Moon site. The local band Hearing Voices provided the music and the raffle for the
three playhouses took place at 12:00 noon.

Local Redmond HFH news:
Redmond Habitat for Humanity is just finishing up the triplex
built on 23rd Street. Over the next six weeks, they will be installing a fence,
grass and gravel to give the triplex a finishing touch.
On August 28th, Redmonds HFH will have a booth set up at the Redmond Saturday Market. [The Redmond Saturday Market is held
the last Saturday of every month in the park by Redmonds Chamber of Commerce;
vendors from the area set up their booths and the public is invited to come see the arts
and crafts being sold.] They will be selling cook books, pins, T-shirts and will provide
information for those interested in Habitat. Come down and see what exciting things are
happening in the Redmond community!
Local Jefferson County HFH news:
Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity received a $20,000 challenge
grant from the Ford Family Foundation in Roseburg to help build a house for
a family in Jefferson County. This house will be wheelchair accessible for the
familys daughter.
The challenge is to raise $20,000 to match the
$20,000 given. This is a prerequisite. Jefferson County HFH will be seeking professional
volunteers and donated building materials and cash. If you are interested in contributing,
