Update on Habitat for Humanity for June of 2000

Central Oregon Housing Needs Assessment will be taking a survey to determine how much need there is for housing in Central Oregon. In June, COHNA will be hosting the Central Oregon Housing Symposium to unveil the results of their survey to the public. The symposium will be held at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in the South Sister Conference Center, Tuesday, June 20th, from 8am to 5pm approximately. Lunch is included. Northwest Area Foundation is funding the symposium. Key speakers from various organizations from all over the state will be there to speak on housing needs and related topics. This symposium will be free and if you are interested you will need to RSVP to Central Oregon Housing Authority at 923-1018 Ext. 114. Ask for Roy Chamberlain.

Each HFH affiliate will be there selling raffle tickets and giving away free Pepsi. Raffle tickets cost $2.00 per ticket or three for $5.00. Come join in on the fun!

Local Bend Area HFH news:

Harriman Street update: A work group of 16 youth volunteers and two adult supervisors from Orchard Community Church in Lewiston, Idaho have arrived to help work on the Strawbale house and Grace house for a week; they also are building a fence for the Cunningham house.

The landscaping and some painting is being finished on the Full Moon Drive triplex. This is the last triplex to be built and will complete the project on Full Moon Drive. The dedication of the triplex will be in July; a specific date has not yet been set.

The HFH Caravaners will be arriving June 18th to help Bend Area HFH build this summer. They will be staying until the 30th of June. The Caravaners are a group of RVers who travel from affiliate to affiliate nine months out of the year to help on work projects.

For building materials you need, come shop at the ReStore, located on 9th and Armour in Bend; 312-6709.

HFH is always looking for volunteers. Please contact them at 541-385-5387. Thanks for your support!

Local Redmond HFH news:

The footings have been poured on the James Family lot (located on SW 21st Street). HFH hopes to install the stem walls and plumbing this week. After these tasks have been completed, the radiant floor heating will go in and then the pre-manufactured stress skin panels. HFH is currently looking for qualified contractors, namely those who specialize in concrete, heating (radiant), and roofing to help with this project.

HFH will have a booth at the Senior Fair and Deschutes County Fair to recruit volunteers and support. At the Deschutes County Fair, they will be sharing a booth with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and four other Central Oregon affiliates of HFH.

HFH is in need of tools—saws, routers, generators, etc.—to be donated for use in future construction. Please call 541-548-1406. The HFH office is open from 10-12 am to receive donations. If you are unable to bring these tools down to the office, HFH will pick them up from your home or business.

Local Sisters HFH news:

HFH’s duplex is to be dedicated in July; the date has not yet been set. Once this duplex is finished, they hope to start building two more duplexes on the property they just purchased on Washington Street.

They will be hosting a potluck Sunday the 25th at 3 pm at Village Green Park. If interested in coming, please bring a main dish, salad, and/or dessert.

They have decided that Thursday, Friday and Saturday of every week will be work days on building projects. If anyone would like to volunteer their time on one or more of these days, please call Charlene at 549-1193.
