Update on Habitat for Humanity for November of 1999
Local Bend Area HFH news:
Bend Area Habitat for Humanity is in the final phases of completing the final Full Moon Drive Triplex, which is the last of the construction at this site. Once completed, HFH will have completed two single family dwellings, two triplexes, and three duplexes within a block on Full Moon Drive. The dedication date of the final triplex has not yet been decided but will probably occur within the next month.
Through the Deschutes County Juvenile Justice program, HFH has completed a single family home on Emerson and plans to start a second house. The plans have been submitted to architect, Darlene Boettger to be completed.
HFH is in the initial construction phases of their new office building at 1860 NE 4th Street; they have just completed the foundation and hope to have the office completed by February or March.
At Higher Ground, a plot of ground has been purchased and construction will begin early next year, probably in the Spring. Also, seven lots have been purchased on Harriman Road in Bend for 2000 construction projects. The goal of Bend Area HFH is to build five homes a year (including their new office for the year 2000).
November 26-27 and December 22-23, HFH will be gift wrapping at Barnes and Noble. Donations only.

Local Redmond HFH news:
Redmond HFH will be involved with many Christmas bizarres in the next three months. Many of the bizarres will be held at local churches and information on dates, times and locations can be found in future Spokesman newspapers. Look under the section titled "What’s Happening." One of the bazarres is being held at the Assembly of God Church on November 20th. HFH will be selling cook books, pens, etc.
The triplex project is almost completed. The papers are ready to be signed, which will probably happen in approximately two weeks. After that, HFH will host a dedication ceremony; the date is still to be decided.
The site and design work is being done for the plans of the Billy James single family home. This house will be built on a lot located on 21st Street in Redmond.
An antique 1947 CJ2 Willy's Jeep has been dedicated to HFH. Sealed bids are being taken, the starting price is $4250. Bids will be taken until December 31st and opened on January 4th.
The third and fourth graders at Terrebonne School nailed and painted 88 bird houses to be sold as a fundraiser. Fish and Wildlife donated the blue prints.

Local Jefferson County HFH news:
Jefferson County HFH Metolius home, that is being built for a family of seven, is planning on having electricity by this week, with the sheet rock and heating to be installed soon after. If interested in volunteering, please call Fritz Marvel at 475-6650. The address of the house is 503 9th Street, Metolius.
The 100 year old piano, that was being displayed at Inspiration Art Gallery in Madras originally shipped from England, was auctioned off to the highest bidder on November 1st. The starting bid was $1500. The piano sold for $1850. This money helped pay HFH’s lumber bill for the month.
HFH hopes to break ground on their fifth house in March of 2000.
United Methodist Church in Madras is selling 100 tickets to a prime rib dinner and auction. From the profits made, the church has pledged $3000 to Jefferson County’s HFH.

Tithing Builds Homes Abroad:
"The tithe is a cornerstone of the Habitat Affiliate Covenant, which expects each affiliate to give at least 10 percent of its undesignated income to help build houses in other parts of the world.
Tithing, a scripturally based Christian principle, is simply a means of sharing the blessings which have graced our lives. So far this year Sisters Habitat has tithed $15,635, helping to build nearly 6 homes in Central America.
Sisters Habitat tithe is currently designated to help build homes in partnership with families whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Mitch in fall 1998.

US Bank Awards All Oregon Affiliates:
"Habitat for Humanity of Oregon was organized for the sole purpose of obtaining large corporate donations to assist local affiliates with fundraising. Recently, US Bank awarded $175,000 to the State Organization.
These funds will be distributed to all 31 Habitat affiliates in the state of Oregon. Distribution of the funds will be determined by the number of building permits obtained in 1999. Sisters Habitat will receive approximately $2,700 for each of the three homes built this year." Article taken from "Heart & Hammer" Issue for the Fall of 1999 by Sisters HFH.
Sisters Habitat for Humanity received a $20,000 challenge grant from the Ford Family Foundation in Roseburg which they will go towards their building project for 2000. This project will be building a duplex.
The challenge is to raise $20,000 to match the $20,000 given. This is a prerequisite. Sisters HFH will be seeking donated building materials and cash. If you are interested in contributing, please call Charlene at 541-549-1193.
The HFH Board and Committee in Sisters will be attending a retreat at Black Butte Ranch November 20th from 8:30 to 4:00 pm.
There will be a homeowners workshop December 3 at 7 pm at the COCC Center to discuss legal issues.
HFH will be hosting a Christmas Potluck, Sunday, December 12th at 6 pm, at the Sisters Fire Hall.
Also, in December, the Sisters HFH Thrift Store will be helping low income kids buy Christmas gifts for their families. Gift wrapping and hot chocolate will be provided for the kids during their time shopping.Fred J. Becker, Architect's E-mail
