Update on Habitat for Humanity for September of 1999

Local Bend Area HFH news:

Bend Area HFH just started laying the foundation to their new office, which will house the regional center and the Bend affiliate. This building project is projected to be completed in February of 2000. It will be located on the corner of 4th and Seward in Bend.

HFH is approximately a month away from finishing up the last tri-plex on Full Moon Drive in Bend. They are taking applications (until the 24th of September) for the next two homes, which will be located on Dorey Court and Higher Ground in Bend. The project at Dorey Court will be the next community justice job site. These homes are often labeled "restorative justice houses" since the youth from the restorative justice program help build them.

Bend Area HFH is also bidding on four other potential sites for future homes.

Local Redmond HFH news:

Redmond Habitat for Humanity is in a transition stage, finishing up the triplex, and will have more to report on new projects next month. Their web page is up and running at http://www.redmondhabitat.org. Go check it out!

Local Jefferson County HFH news:

Jefferson County HFH is currently working on a home in Metolius that will meet the needs of a family of seven, specifically the handicap needs of one of the children in the family. The walls of the home are ready to be raised and HFH is looking for volunteers who would be willing to donate some time to help. The walls and roof need to be up before bad weather hits. If interested in volunteering, please call Fritz Marvel at 475-6650 or Joanne Sutherland at 475-6501.

The annual HFH Fair is being held September 24th through the 26th at the Jefferson County Fair Grounds. This is the largest garage sale in Jefferson County. HFH is still accepting donations. The hours will be 9am-5pm on Friday and Saturday and 1-5pm on Sunday.

Local Sisters HFH news:

Sisters HFH just completed three houses. The duplex was dedicated in June. The families each own home within the duplex (or "zero lot line home"). September 11th, HFH, with help from the high school, landscaped around the duplex. The single family home was dedicated in July.

Sisters Habitat for Humanity received a $20,000 challenge grant from the Ford Family Foundation in Roseburg which they will go towards their building project for 2000. This project will be building a duplex.

The challenge is to raise $20,000 to match the $20,000 given. This is a prerequisite. Sisters HFH will be seeking donated building materials and cash. If you are interested in contributing, please call Charlene at 541-549-1193.

International Day of Prayer for Habitat for Humanity will be held on September 19th. Many churches across the globe, including Sisters, will be praying for HFH and the opportunities to build homes in the future for those in need.
